Nielsen Adds Revolutionary Capabilities to Its Web-Based Information Delivery Platform, Nielsen Answers

Nielsen Answers 5.0 Integrates Information from Many Sources to Deliver Complete, Personalized Solutions to CPG Clients

Hollywood, FL

The Nielsen Company today announced the launch of the most powerful, web-based strategic information management system ever made available to the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry – Nielsen Answers™ 5.0.

“This release of Nielsen Answers makes it possible for every one of our clients to gain a fully integrated view of what’s happening in the marketplace, understand why it happened and decide what to do next with exceptional speed and efficiency” said John J. Lewis, President & CEO, ACNielsen North America. “This is a truly revolutionary approach to connecting consumer information from many sources and delivering it to our clients in the form of clear answers that lead directly to practical solutions to their business issues. Nielsen Answers is the first fully realized web-based information access, delivery and analysis platform designed specifically for the CPG industry.”

Key new features introduced in Nielsen Answers 5.0 include:

  • Dashboard reporting that delivers diagnostic information and a point-of-entry into Nielsen’s databases and allows an executive to monitor performance against corporate objectives. Using advanced business-intelligence logic, Nielsen Answers Dashboards deliver information in the form of plain-language text and clear graphic illustrations designed to meet the specific needs of individual clients in general management, marketing and sales.
  • Roadmaps that enable the client to examine and understand the market forces that are driving market trends and the potential impact of changes in their marketing and sales programs. Nielsen Answers Roadmaps give general business users an intuitive, personalized approach to evaluating complex market information and devising solutions to specific issues.
  • Applications for both general business users and specialists designed to help them plan and conduct future marketing and sales programs, based on highly advanced analytical models and simulation and forecasting tools.

The new capabilities delivered through Nielsen Answers are based on integrated combinations of market measurement and analytical services from Nielsen businesses, including ACNielsen, Nielsen Homescan and Spectra, Nielsen Media Research, Nielsen Customized Research, TDLinx and Decisions Made Easy. Nielsen Answers also incorporates client-specific and third-party information, and employs advanced data-integration and warehousing technologies, including several that are patent pending. The platform offers CPG clients a powerful combination of deep industry expertise, integrated data and best-in-breed business intelligence technologies and tools to give them a complete marketing and media information solution.

Dale Hagemeyer, Research Vice President with Gartner, Inc., said, “The good news for the CPG industry has always been that it has so many data sources, from household data to store descriptive data to point-of-sale data. The bad news has traditionally been that no single source existed that could pull them all together, with strong role-based and scenario-based analytics. A single source is a powerful thing and CPG companies that have tried to combine all the data sources on their own into a generic analytical tool are finding the effort to be very costly in terms of both time and money.”

“There is outstanding technology built into the Nielsen Answers platform, but what matters most are the many advantages that the technology delivers to our clients,” John Lewis said. “This is a platform that delivers personalized solutions to every constituency in our clients’ organizations, based on a unique combination of the industry’s best information, data-integration and business-intelligence technology and applications.

“Nielsen’s goals have always been to help our clients understand what’s happening in the marketplace as quickly as possible, reach the consumer with the greatest possible impact and efficiency, and drive their growth in profit, volume and market share,” Mr. Lewis said. “Nielsen Answers 5.0 is a highly innovative, technologically sophisticated, and above all practical, useable and actionable platform that sets a new standard of excellence against all these objectives.”

Nielsen Answers 5.0 was evaluated in an Industry Research Report by Gartner, Inc., titled “Nielsen Offers the Most Complete Strategic Information for Consumer Goods Manufacturers.” The report, Gartner RAS Core Research Note G00145765, February 6, 2007, can be viewed at http://www.nielsen.com/pdf/nielsen_2169.pdf.
