| What Is Six Sigma?
Six Sigma is a highly disciplined process that delivers high-quality products and services by focusing on areas that are the most critical to our clients. If you can measure how many “defects” you have in a process, you can systematically figure out how to eliminate them and get as close to “zero defects” as possible. Eliminating errors is the central idea behind Six Sigma. ACNielsen has successfully implemented Six Sigma as part of a continuous business improvement program in order to deliver the highest quality products and services available in the industry.
Six Sigma Evolution
at ACNielsen
In 2003, we launched Six Sigma with five business improvement projects that resulted in more streamlined business processes, higher quality data and greater productivity. We created the Business Improvement department, a team of dedicated Six Sigma project leaders, called “Black Belts” to support the roll out of Six Sigma. We also introduced a Six Sigma Green Belt certification program in 2004 that requires our selected candidates to attend a two-week training course, successfully
complete a Six Sigma project, and pass a
rigorous exam.
Our Six Sigma program is now applied across various functions within our organization, and we have worked directly with a number of clients to improve delivery and service levels. Black Belts and Green Belts are leading high-impact project teams that are focused on achieving dramatic data-driven results for our clients. Since the beginning of the program, close to a hundred Six Sigma projects have been launched. The project results increase value for our clients in the form of reduced database refresh cycle times, faster coding and reporting of new items, increased number of ads coded on-time, improved data quality and faster response to inquiries.
